Château
Bel Air Gloria

On the edge of Saint-Julien Beychevelle, on the banks of the Gironde, Château Bel Air Gloria is located in Cussac. This Haut-Médoc cru bourgeois was acquired by the Martin family in 1980.

‘ Faced with the profusion of vintages named Château Bel Air (several spellings) and to avoid any confusion for our many customers, it was decided some ten years ago to call the vintage “Château Bel Air Gloria”, thus becoming more easily identifiable. The label has also been redesigned in a spirit of modernity, while retaining its authenticity. ’

In 1980, the Martin family acquired Château Bel Air in Cussac Fort-Médoc. They were attracted by the cru’s potential, its proximity to the vineyards they already owned, and their confidence in the future of the Haut-Médoc appellation. The vineyard soon joined the Syndicat des Crus Bourgeois and has been awarded Cru Bourgeois status without interruption for over 25 years.

The vineyard

Our desire to respect nature and preserve the sustainability of ecosystems over the long term led us to reflect, around ten years ago, on the technical itineraries to be implemented.

After obtaining ISO 14001 certification in 2015, as well as the HVE 3 label (property with high environmental value), we decided in 2021, out of conviction and to meet consumer expectations, to begin organic conversion for grape production and processing in the winery.

We also decided to apply biodynamic principles and respect for physiological balance to all our wine production. Today, the entire team is proud to have received organic farming certification for the 2024 vintage.

The winery

The wines are aged in barrels in air-conditioned cellars.
The wood we use has several French origins (mainly Allied and Nièvre). We buy from several coopers, all of great repute. The wood is toasted moderately to lightly, to preserve the character of the terroir.

The wines remain in barrel for around twelve months, racked every three months and fined with egg white. After microbiological control, the wines are, if necessary, filtered on plates before bottling.

‘ The quality and nobility of a wine begin in the vineyard. ’
